SHAKEDOWN: THE TRIAL
THE NEXT CHAPTER OF SHAKEDOWN
More than twenty years after filming began—and fifteen years after the project’s first Kickstarter—SHAKEDOWN is returning in a new form.
SHAKEDOWN: THE TRIAL is a narrative feature built from the world, people, performances, and unresolved questions at the center of the documentary.
Jazmyne has been arrested.
What follows is a trial—but the courtroom is also a theater. Everyone has a role to play. Evidence becomes performance. Judgment becomes entertainment. The law attempts to decide what happened, what it means, and whose version of the story will become official.
Conceived as a courtroom comedy, SHAKEDOWN: THE TRIAL uses farce to examine serious forces: sex, money, policing, obscenity, power, freedom, and the ownership of an image.
The film asks what happens when a world that created its own values is required to defend itself inside somebody else’s system.
Who is permitted to perform?
Who is permitted to profit?
Who gets called an artist, a worker, a criminal, a witness, or a star?
And who controls the story after the night is over?
